4 Key Elements of Data Center Infrastructure Design

Data Center Infrastructure describes the actual set of components that make up the whole system, including all IT infrastructure devices, equipment and technologies. When selecting critical infrastructure (racks, power supplies system, cooling systems, security and environmental Monitoring) for your data center, there are 4 key elements that should be considered.

data center infrastructure selection

1.Space

The number of racks determines the physical size of the IT and equipment rooms. The most prevalent IT rack dimensions have been 600 mm (24 inches) wide, 1070 mm (42 inches) deep, and 42U tall. Knowing how many racks you want to deploy is the first step.

2. Redundancy requirements

Tell the supplier the redundancy requirements of your data center and power distribution path. For general data centers, the N+1 deployment architecture is sufficient to achieve redundancy of power and cooling equipment, but for Tier3 data centers, it includes redundancy of N+1 cooling equipment, dual power supply 2M power supply redundancy, and independent dual power distribution frame.

3.Total load

The average power density per rack multiplied by the number of racks is the maximum IT load of the data center. Then, add the power of the data center's power supply system, cooling system and facilities such as switches and storage equipment. It is wise to adopt a modular strategy, which can reduce costs without sacrificing flexibility for future expansion.

4. Location

Building a data center in a place with low temperatures can help you decrease the cooling cost as well as the PUE. Remember to stay away from places where natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, and wars often occur. Keep your data center safe, reliable and high-efficient.

Data center infrastructure design is a time-consuming task. However, the world of technology has seen plenty of change in recent years and you can get a turnkey solution for building a data center.

integrated data center infrastructure

Kstar data center turnkey solution integrated power supply, distribution systems, battery, cooling system,fire-protection, cabinets in an enclosed system, which also adopts industry best practices in data center design and operations including:

• High availability and scalable modular UPS

• Hot air and cold air separation

• Cold + Hot air containment

• Excellent rack-cooling

• Small-footprint for pace-savings

• Integrated monitoring and control for easy management

More and more forward-looking enterprises have realized that the intelligent modular data center solution (data center integrated solution) with high reliability and availability is the future trend from the perspectives of both current short-term investment and future long-term operating costs. Because with simplified, standardized designs, they can start small and expand over time.
